The entrance to Villa Coco (REP) is the kind where you kick off your shoes before going in. Perhaps you’ve stopped off at the fish market in the nearby village of Lorient, so you’re headed for the kitchen. Or maybe you’re just back from an afternoon at Saline beach, ready for a refreshing dip in the nautilus-shaped pool. Either way, leave the flip-flops at the door; you won’t need them anymore.

Descend the stairs to the deck and take in the expansive view of Lorient Bay and the islands beyond, and far off on the next headland to the west, the picturesque remnants of Autour du Rocher, Jimmy Buffet’s legendary 1980’s hotel and nightspot. A few steps to your left and you’re in the modern, convenient and fully equipped kitchen. Villa Coco’s kitchen opens directly onto a comfortable living room with a flat-screen tv, and beyond that a dining area with seating for ten. But if you are looking for the best vantage point to relax and watch the setting sun, turn to your right and you will find a cushioned alcove with the perfect view, encircled with casual seating for eight if you feel like sharing the moment. Extending out to the edge of the property, a green lawn invites you to move one of the deck chairs out under the branches of coconut trees.
