Gouverneur Beach

Most people arrive at Gouverneur with expectations. They have heard the stories. Seen the photos. Been told, more than once, that they absolutely have to go.

Still, nothing quite prepares you for the moment it reveals itself.

You follow the road to the parking area, take a turn into a lot that feels oddly unremarkable, and start walking. You notice turtles lingering nearby, clearly familiar with visitors. A modest sign points the way. The path is short, easy, and almost misleadingly simple.

And then you arrive.

The water is impossibly blue. The curve of sand feels almost too precise. You pause, caught between disbelief and anticipation, asking yourself two questions at once. Is this real? And where should we put our towels?

What to expect

Gouverneur is iconic, but it rarely feels overrun. The beach sits in a natural bowl, framed by hills and dense greenery that seem to hold everything gently in place. The sand is pale and soft. The water is deep blue and endlessly watchable, shifting shades as the light moves.

This is a place for letting go. Some come to track the movement of the waves. Others disappear into them entirely. Swim. Sit quietly and observe. Gouverneur invites both idleness and awe, often at the same time.

The quirks

When parking is available, Gouverneur makes for an easy, spontaneous stop and is well suited for families. Let yourself stay longer than planned. Gouverneur rewards unhurried time.

The landscape cocoons you from all sides, while the open horizon pulls you forward. It is grounding and expansive at once. The kind of place that makes routine feel very far away.

Suggestions from Sibarth’s Concierge

Come early if you want the beach at its calmest, or later in the afternoon when the light softens and the colors deepen. Bring water, SPF, and something to sit on. The sun reflects strongly here and shade is limited.Getting to Colombier Beach

Colombier can be reached by boat or on foot. There are two walking paths. One starts near Flamands and follows the coastline. The other is steeper and begins from Colombier itself.

You can return the same way you came, or enter by one path and exit by the other. If you plan to do both, two cars are recommended. Give yourself time and start earlier than you think you should.

Getting to Gouverneur Beach

Gouverneur is easily accessed by car, with parking typically available close to the beach. The approach winds through greenery before opening suddenly onto the bay below. Take it slow. The view arrives quickly, and it deserves your attention.
