Gustavia Lighthouse
Perched above the harbor, the Gustavia Lighthouse sits where town, sea, and history converge.
A short, easy walk from the center of Gustavia brings you to this elevated lookout. Below, sailboats drift quietly in and out of the harbor. Beyond them, Shell Beach curves along the shoreline, while red rooftops cluster together in the town below.

The lighthouse you see today dates back to the early 1960s and was built on the grounds of Fort Gustav, a former Swedish stronghold from the island’s past. Long before it became a place to linger at sunset, this hill was chosen for its vantage point. First for defense. Later for navigation.

What has changed is how the space is used. The lighthouse is no longer something you admire only from afar. It’s a social hub for locals and visitors. Golden hour feels especially generous here, and it is well worth timing a visit around sunset. Bring a bottle of wine and a few snacks for an apéro with a view.

Getting to Gustavia Lighthouse
Easily accessed by car or on foot from town, the Gustavia Lighthouse remains one of the island’s most stunning viewpoints.
