Shell Beach

Island Life
12.05.2025

One minute you are walking through Gustavia, distracted by errands or dinner plans. The next, the town slips away and you find yourself above a small, curved cove, sunlight bouncing off shells instead of sand. It feels oddly personal. Like a secret tucked into the middle of town.

What to expect

This is a town beach, and it wears that identity comfortably. The cove is compact and enclosed, keeping people close and the atmosphere lively. The shore is covered in smooth shells that warm quickly in the sun, giving the beach both its name and its glow.

There is constant movement. People drifting in and out of the water. Friends gathering in loose circles. Someone scanning the shallows for fish or interesting ocean life. Others floating nearby with a drink in hand, half in conversation, half in the sea.

Shell Beach is social by nature. You do not come here to disappear. You come for a pause that still feels connected.

The quirks

Timing matters more than space. Early mornings feel calm and almost private, when the town is still quiet and the water lies flat. Late afternoons bring a different energy, as the light softens and people linger to watch the day wind down.

Because it sits so close to town, Shell Beach draws an eclectic crowd. Locals stopping by briefly. Visitors extending a stay after lunch at Shellona. Families, couples, groups of friends. The charm lives in that overlap.

Suggestions from Sibarth’s Concierge

Shell Beach is best enjoyed early or toward the end of the day. Midday can be lively and warm, especially in high season.

Shellona sits directly on the beach, offering food and drinks from an easy to-go bar setup. Reservations are recommended if you plan to eat.

Paid parking near the beach is limited. Street parking in town is often a more practical option, even if it means a short walk. If you are staying in Gustavia, walking is the simplest choice.

Getting to Shell Beach

Shell Beach is located just outside the center of Gustavia and is easily reached on foot from town. From the parking area, a short walk leads directly down into the cove. It is one of the island’s most accessible beaches.

For the Sibarth team, it is a familiar stop, just around the block from the Swedish House.
