The Natural Pools at Grand Fond
On the Atlantic side of St. Barth, the Natural Pools at Grand Fond reward those willing to take the hike.
Carved into volcanic rock, these ocean-fed basins rise and fall with the tide, offering a raw swimming experience far removed from beach clubs and chaise lounges.
To reach the Natural Ponds, park near the Grand Fond beach access and follow the marked path. The walk takes about 20-30 minutes across uneven rock, so proper shoes are recommended. Bring water, SPF, and visit in daylight. Always check sea conditions before heading out. The pools are safest when the ocean is calm, and sea urchins can be present, so step carefully.
There are no facilities and no lifeguards. Just wind, stone, and open water. One of the island’s best features, when approached with patience and respect for the terrain and the tide.
