Meet Didier, local carpenter
Island life requires a certain kind of ingenuity. Materials take longer to arrive. Replacement parts are not always available. When something needs fixing, building, or reimagining, you rely on the talented people around you. The ones who know how to make things work.
Didier is one of those people.

A multi-generational islander and trusted carpenter for many Sibarth projects and beyond, his work sits subtly throughout villas and homes across Saint Barts. Staircases that feel original to the home. Shutters that close just right. Custom furniture made to withstand salty air, strong sun, and time itself.
We recently spent an afternoon with Didier at his home and workshop in Flamands. Between the scent of cut wood and the steady hum of tools, what stood out most was his presence. Sincere, good-humored, and completely at ease.

He speaks about his craft with the calm confidence of someone who has done this for years, often with a joke never far behind.

There is nothing rushed about his process. Each piece of wood is measured, cut, adjusted, and reconsidered until it belongs exactly where it will live.
On an island where skilled craftsmanship is essential, Didier is someone we return to again and again. Not only for his precision, but for his instinctive understanding of how homes here should function. Open to the elements. Built to endure. Respectful of their surroundings.

Much of what he creates is custom. Made for a specific space or purpose. Designed to feel as though it has always been there.
